Will Ivy fulfill her destiny as a dazzling Milbourn woman? Or will the pressure from her family cause her to crumble?
The summer before Ivy’s senior year is going to be golden—all bonfires, barbeques, and spending time with her best friends. For once, she will just get to be. No summer classes, none of Granddad’s intense expectations to live up to the family name. For generations, the Milbourn women have led extraordinary lives—and died young and tragically. Granddad calls it a legacy, but Ivy considers it a curse. Why else would her mother have run off and abandoned her as a child?
But when her mother unexpectedly returns home with two young daughters in tow, all of the stories Ivy wove to protect her heart start to unravel. The very people she once trusted now speak in lies. And all of Ivy’s ambition and determination cannot defend her against the secrets of the Milbourn past…

Jessica Spotwood's WILD SWANS tells the story of Ivy Milbourne, who was supposed to live up to the legacy of Milbourn women. Were they crazy, extraordinary or cursed? No one really knew. But Ivy thought they all were complicated, just like her mother, Erica Milbourne. Ivy grew up with her GrandDad, as her mother had abandoned her as a child. All she knew was the reason could be something connected with living the legacy of Milborne Women, who all happened to have a mysterious ending to their story of life. But, Ivy was in for a shock when GrandPa announces that Erica, is coming home with her two daughters. Her perfect summer is gonna be the worst one with Erica and her kids around the house.

Wild Swans is a poignant story with a compulsive writing, intriguing storyline, and convincing characters. I instantly connected with the main character, Ivy Milborne, as I had gone through similar situations in the last few years. The struggles, Ivy went through brought back a flood of memories that I had hidden at the back of my mind; which made the whole reading quite an emotional experience rather than the joyful one.

Told from Ivy's perspective, we get an insight into her train of thoughts and emotions; which assists us to analyze the protagonist thoroughly. The troubles make her an emotional wreck and we see her having trouble to make decisions and speaking up her mind. The writing was so absorbing, that I also had the feeling of being smothered by all the wrong accusations and expectation-games played on her. I was so happy when she found herself and received a promising start by the end of the story.

Not only that but the background setting, which describes a sun-drenched summer, afternoon-heat, summer vacation, swimming, pool and beach parties, was making a real summer effect on me. Excellent. Recommended, if you are looking for a good summer read. Jessica Spotswood's liking for poems is so evident throughout the story. Gotta say how poetic is her writing as well, which helps you paint the images in mind with ease.

Wild Swans has also got a perfect love triangle in it. It was easy to see whom she would end up with; still seeing the whole things from Ivy's point of view makes the reading so fascinating. Though we don't get to see much chemistry between Connor and Ivy, I enjoyed reading how Connor tried to support her and how honest they were to each other.

I can go on and on about this book. There are Ivy's awesome friends, Adorable baby Grace, Interestingly attractive Isobel, Erica, GrandDad, Louisa, Alex, Ella and so on. Wild Swans has an interesting list of realistic characters. But I can't share the details, as the book is yet to be published.

Jessica Spotswood's WILD SWANS is definitely one of the best realistic novels I read in 2016. You are in for a dash of feminism, a touch of paranormality, a dollop of romance and gallons of realism in this beautifully written book. Make sure to grab it!
